NGO work is vital for driving inclusive rural development by empowering communities, improving livelihoods, strengthening governance, & promoting sustainable environmental practices at the grassroot.

The Institute for Rural Development (IRD), established in 2000, is a non-profit organization committed to advancing sustainable environmental practices and enhancing the livelihoods of rural communities across Karnataka. Registered under the Karnataka Societies Act of 1960, IRD primarily focuses on empowering women through the formation of self-help groups, skill development initiatives, and income-generating activities that promote self-reliance. Starting its journey with just five villages, IRD has significantly expanded its reach to over 25 taluks, implementing large-scale, community-driven development programs. The organization works closely with Panchayati Raj Institutions and local governance bodies to strengthen decentralized governance and improve rural infrastructure and service delivery. Mr. Farmer - distributing Climate Smart kits to farmers

As part of the Mr. Farmer project in the Kengeri Hobli region of Bangalore, the Institute for Rural Development (IRD) - Vijayapur provided 10 farmers with a package consisting of 1 beekeeping Box, 1 vermicompost unit, 1 biocharcoal set, and 25 plant saplings each. Demonstrations of the Bee-Keeping set, Vermicompost unit, and Bio-charcoal Sets were conducted for the farmers, and they were successfully installed. The Institute for Rural Development (IRD) - Vijayapur offers a chance for volunteers to contribute by donating and assisting small-scale farmers in cultivating and improving their livelihoods. A modest donation can significantly enhance the life of a farmer.

Jal Jeevan Mission

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), IRD – Institute for Rural Development, Vijayapur, in collaboration with the Government of Karnataka and Zilla Panchayat, is implementing a comprehensive water and sanitation programme across rural taluks of Vijayapur district. As part of this initiative, IRD is promoting sustainable access to safe drinking water, improved sanitation practices, and water conservation, while also driving community awareness through school-based activities such as essay writing and drawing competitions, engaging 90–100 students to encourage responsible water usage and environmental stewardship.

Education Acceleration Program

The Institute for Rural Development, Vijayapur, in collaboration with the Azim Premji Foundation, is offering free educational programs during the summer break for economically disadvantaged school children in rural villages. With many children facing educational challenges, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, our team has launched the Special Learning Movement (Vishesha Kalika Andolan) to bridge this gap and provide essential education to eligible students. This initiative has greatly benefited underprivileged children in village communities, ensuring they receive the necessary support for their educational needs.

Ground Water Recharge (GWR) Program

IRD - Institute for Rural Development, Vijayapur, has undertaken several awareness programs focused on Ground Water Recharge (GWR). The primary objective of these initiatives is to address key challenges related to groundwater sustainability and agricultural productivity in the region. Overall, IRD's efforts in conducting awareness programs on Ground Water Recharge are aimed at promoting sustainable water management practices, enhancing agricultural resilience, and ensuring the efficient utilization of groundwater resources for the benefit of rural communities in Vijayapur and beyond. Through education, outreach, and capacity-building activities, IRD seeks to empower stakeholders to adopt GWR techniques and contribute to the conservation and sustainable management of groundwater resources.

Mr. Farmer - Empowering Farmers for Economic Freedom

IRD - Institute for Rural Development, Vijayapur, in collaboration with Bloomreach CSR Activity and Manterlee Social Innovations Federation, is implementing the "Mr. Farmer" project in Kengeri Hobli, Bengaluru. The project aims to empower farmers of Kengeri Hobli as rural entrepreneurs by enhancing their skills, providing infrastructure, knowledge, and training. It offers climate-smart kits including Agroforestry, Bee-Keeping, Vermi-Composting, and Active Bio-Charcoal production. The key objectives of the project are as follows: a. Raise awareness on climate-smart agriculture. b. Promote climate-smart agriculture by enhancing available infrastructure for farmers. c. Contribute to environmental conservation through tree plantation in Agroforestry and their maintenance.
