The Institute for Rural Development (IRD), established in 2000, is a non-profit organization committed to advancing sustainable environmental practices and enhancing the livelihoods of rural communities across Karnataka. Registered under the Karnataka Societies Act of 1960, IRD primarily focuses on empowering women through the formation of self-help groups, skill development initiatives, and income-generating activities that promote self-reliance. Starting its journey with just five villages, IRD has significantly expanded its reach to over 25 taluks, implementing large-scale, community-driven development programs. The organization works closely with Panchayati Raj Institutions and local governance bodies to strengthen decentralized governance and improve rural infrastructure and service delivery.
