Herbal/Medicinal Garden at Selected Residential Schools
IRD - Institute for Rural Development, Vijayapur, in collaboration with the Karnataka Medicinal Plants Authority (KMPA), has initiated a project aimed at establishing Herbal Gardens in selected residential schools across the Vijayapur district of Karnataka. The primary objective of this project is to design, develop, implement, and maintain these Herbal Gardens, with a particular focus on caring for Rare, Endangered, and Threatened (RET) medicinal plant species. In addition to cultivating medicinal plants, the project aims to raise awareness about environmental sustainability, the utilization of medicinal plants, and traditional knowledge of herbs among students and the wider community. To achieve these objectives, the project adopts a comprehensive approach involving the following strategies: 1. Involvement of Students in Herbal Garden Implementation. 2. Formal Training, Awareness, and Orientation Sessions at Schools. 3. Regular Informative Social Media Postings. Overall, this three-pronged approach underscores the project's commitment to empowering students, schools, and the community with knowledge and resources to promote the cultivation of medicinal plants, preserve traditional herbal knowledge, and foster environmental stewardship within the Vijayapur district of Karnataka.
